caught staring
Sometimes thing that bother me in the moment actually end up making the photograph. This beautiful deer was a few feet from a clearing, slightly obscured by leaves. I was so happy to get a sharp photo of the deer with blurred greenery in the foreground and the background! Initially, the leaves in front really bothered me because I wanted an unobstructed view of the deer. However, the clutter adds depth and makes it seem like I stumbled upon something I was not supposed to see.
curious fox
The woods behind our house at the time was home to several beautiful foxes. One day I saw this cutie walk by the front door and I followed it outside with my camera. Thinking it ran away, I nearly went back inside when I saw the fox pokes its head out from behind a tree. I only managed to get this picture before it got scared and ran back home into the woods.
ready for the storm
This photo holds a special place in my heart. It may be the closest thing to a perfect photo I have ever taken. My first visit to Rocky Mountain National Park included searching for elk, and just off the road I found a bull elk and dozens of cow elk in a field. The bull elk wandered around before looking off towards the ominous clouds in the mountains. I love the brown of the field and the elk in the foreground, and the blending of the gray and blue mountains with the white of the snow and the clouds. Driving back through this area 30 minutes later, the clouds had parted and the elk had left the area. I feel so lucky to have witnessed this dramatic moment.
family of five
I saw this raccoon family walking across the backyard, and by the time I grabbed my camera and ran outside they started climbing the tree. They never fully settled but I managed to get five of them, including a couple curious onlookers.
doe-eyed
I love seeing the baby deers in the spring! It is hard to get close to them, so I was ecstatic to catch this fella with a sunny background that made the entire scene look like a fairy tale.
little pop of red
While capturing the rhododendrons blooming one spring, I saw this cardinal hiding in the flowers. Initially I was disappointed not to get more of the cardinal in the picture, but I think the little pop of red was actually for the best!
sunflower fields forever
About a decade ago, I learned about this farmland where sunflowers are grown every year. Sunflowers are among my favorite flowers, and I particularly liked this big guy standing out from the crowd. The lighting really brought out the yellows and oranges which made this scene warm and happy.
