About Me

my history

I have been interested in photography for as long as I can remember. From burning through disposable cameras as a kid to my first point-and-shoot digital camera, I have always wanted to capture moments and memories. My interests expanded when I challenged myself to a "photo a day" activity back in 2013. This taught me to be creative as I quickly ran out of things to photograph at home and out and about. I began experimenting with long exposure photography and exploring the area for landscapes and wildlife.

Thousands of photos and a few DSLRs later, now is as good a time as any to share my photographs!

why long exposure?

What is interesting to me about long exposure photography? I like the blurring of time in a single image. Too often the goal is to capture a specific moment in time with a fast shutter speed to have sharp features. I enjoy thinking about the other extreme. Long exposures allow light at different times to be combined into a single image. This could be a blur of motion of multiple or distinct exposures on top of one another.

The result is effectively slowing down your brain, requiring seconds to form an image in your mind while simultaneously inducing motion that gives the impression of time speeding up.

why nature?

Nature is fun to photograph because you don’t get to control your subjects. Wildlife are like models that are not keen on posing, so it is a victory to catch them in a special moment. As for landscapes, it requires effort to reach special views and to make pictures different from the countless other photos of the same area. Additionally, while many consider “bad” weather an issue, I think it makes for more dramatic conditions.
